Making Matcha

Ingredients:

1 to 1½ teaspoons matcha powder (adjust to your taste)

2 oz hot water (not boiling, about 160–175°F)

10 oz hot or cold water, milk, or milk alternative

Optional: sweetener (honey, agave, maple syrup)

1. Sift the Matcha

Place 1 to 1½ tsp matcha powder into a bowl or large mug through a fine mesh strainer. This prevents clumps and helps create a smoother drink.

2. Add Hot Water (2 oz)

Heat water to around 160–175°F (just under boiling). Add 2 oz to the matcha.

3. Whisk Until Frothy

Using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or milk frother, whisk in a zigzag (M or W) motion until the matcha is smooth and slightly frothy.

4. Top with Water or Milk (10 oz)

Add 10 oz of your choice of hot water, steamed milk, or cold milk/milk alternative for an iced matcha.

5. Sweeten to Taste (optional)

Add your preferred sweetener and stir well.
