Making Matcha
Ingredients:
• 1 to 1½ teaspoons matcha powder (adjust to your taste)
• 2 oz hot water (not boiling, about 160–175°F)
• 10 oz hot or cold water, milk, or milk alternative
• Optional: sweetener (honey, agave, maple syrup)
1. Sift the Matcha
• Place 1 to 1½ tsp matcha powder into a bowl or large mug through a fine mesh strainer. This prevents clumps and helps create a smoother drink.
2. Add Hot Water (2 oz)
• Heat water to around 160–175°F (just under boiling). Add 2 oz to the matcha.
3. Whisk Until Frothy
• Using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or milk frother, whisk in a zigzag (M or W) motion until the matcha is smooth and slightly frothy.
4. Top with Water or Milk (10 oz)
• Add 10 oz of your choice of hot water, steamed milk, or cold milk/milk alternative for an iced matcha.
5. Sweeten to Taste (optional)
• Add your preferred sweetener and stir well.
